There we have it. Another year for Hampshire Girls drawing to a close with the final qualifying competition of the year, Autumn Meeting. The reception we received at Sherfield Oaks was truly superb as 15 girls prepared to compete in this year’s closing stableford competition.
It was splendid to see a number of new competitors on the start sheet. Alima, Maryam, Georgia and Tia, it was fantastic to welcome you all today and we hope you enjoyed your first taste of Hampshire Girls Golf.
After a swift warm up on the driving range and putting green, play got underway from the 1st tee of the Wellington course. A few were a touch long on the dog leg left to right opening hole but there was some fantastic ball striking by all the girls as they got their round started.
It wasn’t long into the round that the sun came out and the choice to wear a skort had paid off for many. We watched some fantastic approaches into the 10th green and some tricky downhill putts as the girls proceeded into their back 9. The score would suggest that the second half was favoured with some really good scores on the way back to the clubhouse.
At the conclusion of play we enjoyed a lovely meal of lasagne and chocolate brownie, which looked and smelt decadent, before enjoying the prize presentation. The scores were very close in places and a number of prizes were awarded on count back.
In 3rd place with 34 points on countback was Hatty Richardson (Corhampton) who had a fabulous back 9 score of 21 points, which included pars at holes 10, 11 and 17. In 2nd place and also the winner of the President’s Cup for the best score from a newcomer with an excellent 36 points was Alima Kassim (Bishopswood). Our best scratch score of the day belonged to Jenny Myers (Alresford) with a scratch score of 26 points and our winner of the 2021 Autumn Meeting, also with a score of 36 points but winning on the back nine with a score of 20 points, including seven pars, was Abigail Dymott (Meon Valley).
Well done girls on some great scoring and fantastic play on the course. I’m already looking forward to next season.
A huge thank you to Di Stock for refereeing, to Pauline for her help with processing entries, to Jill, Chris, Liz and Kate for all their help and support. Last but not least, a massive thank you to Sherfield Oaks Golf Club for the excellent hospitality, wonderful food and courtesy of the course, we look forward to coming back.
I will be arranging a social event for Christmas with a prize giving for 2021. Once we have secured the date for this we will let you all know. Don’t forget we also have the Festival Day taking place on 28th October, please get involved if you can and join some of our newer golfers in Hampshire.
