Justin Rose Ladies Series

The natural setting of Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club (BMGC) in the heart of the New Forest was looking spectacular for the opening event of the Justin Rose Ladies Series. The weather was looking good for the day and the classy field of 44 Professionals and 3 Amateur ladies were in for a treat as play started at 10:30am.

Course manager, Kevan Glass, and his green keeping team had BMGC looking in tip top condition, and were not shy in showing off its difficult but brilliant set up! General manager of BMGC, Kevin Light, seen here with our very own Hampshire Girls Secretary, Ann Younger, welcomed all the players and thanked his wonderful band of club members as helpers for the day.

The event saw players, including the likes of Dame Laura Davies, Charley Hull, Meghan MacLaren and many others eagerly waiting to get the Series underway. The three lucky amateurs in the field were England Squad players Louise Burke, Lottie Woad and Mimi Rhodes, who appeared to keep their cool mingling with the seasoned Pros.

The early starters went along well in the best of the weather, with Hampshire’s Liz Young, and Hayley Davis setting the pace and finishing on level and +11 respectively. Dame Laura Davies had a lovely birdie on 14 and finished up on +7. The greens were proving very difficult, especially on the Par 3 10th hole, with some very tricky pin positions, many being at the back. Not an easy scoring day. Our other two Hampshire Professionals, Tracey Boyes and our own Hampshire Girls Squad coach, Georgie Mundy, seen below, finished up on +8 and +9 respectively.

It was almost the fairytale ending for Hampshire Pro Liz Young, whose initiative it was to get the Ladies Series up and running. Once everyone was in she and Charley Hull shared the lead on level par. So it went to a play off down the 1st, where Charley emerged as the winner.

Huge well done to Liz from all of us here in Hampshire for your game and bringing Professional women’s golf back in Hampshire. Details of further events in the Series can be found here https://theroseladiesseries.golfgenius.com

  1. So sad the ladies and girls in Hampshire were unable to spectate at this opening event. Hopefully spectators will be allowed at events later this year.
